Session Summary
This session will allow attendees to interact with a distinguished panel and learn about the nuances and details of state and federal requirements for advance directives and advance care planning. Attendees will receive instruction on the role of nurse leadership and clinical staff, who can make decisions for the resident, how to interact with hospice, the most cited deficiencies, and how to prepare a plan of correction for these topics that will satisfy surveyors.

About the Presenter
Karen Goldsmith currently serves as the Florida Health Care Association's Regulatory Counsel and has previously served as the association's Legal Counsel since 1980. She represents several providers of nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She is active on the American Health Care Association Legal Committee and served as its chairman for two terms. She is an active member of the American Health Lawyers Association. She frequently speaks on healthcare and legal issues and has written numerous articles.
Susan Anderson
Director of Regulatory Affairs | Florida Health Care Association
About the Presenter
Susan Anderson currently serves as the Director of Regulatory Affairs for the Florida Health Care Association. In this position, she concentrates on supporting the legislative, regulatory, and policy activities on behalf of association members for nursing centers and assisted living facilities. Ms. Anderson has experience in senior housing and in developing public policy positions and advising on regulatory compliance. Ms. Anderson is an active member of the Florida Bar.
Kendra Ferrero

About the Presenter
Dr. Kendra Ferrero is currently the Vice-President of Administrative Services for Onyx Care Centers. Dr. Kendra Ferrero is a multi-state licensed RN board certified in Gerontology She also holds an active Nursing Home Administrator license in several states. She earned her MBA from Warner University and her Doctorate with a specialty in Health Care Administration from Northcentral University. She has worked in the post-acute environment since 1977. She has been involved in the delivery of educational presentations in skilled nursing since 1984. She sits on numerous FHCA and AHCA/NCAL committees. She is a Senior Examiner for the AHCA/NCAL Quality Program.
