The Prospective Payment System (PPS) for Medicaid continues to evolve and present both challenges and opportunities to providers for managing their reimbursement potential. This session will focus on the upcoming rebasing process for 2021 rates and what providers can expect from changes due to the 2021 legislative session. Participants will learn how to improve their rates and change their behavior to prepare for new rules that will apply through 2023. Participants will learn the impact of the reduction and eventual elimination of the hold harmless provision and evaluate their current position in relation to a pure PPS environment. Participants will also learn the steps they should take now to ensure they are prepared to compete in the future.

About the Presenter
A member of the Firm's Senior Housing and Long-Term Care Practice Groups, Lorne Simmons has over 30 years of accounting experience, 22 years in senior housing, and health insurance. Lorne's focus at MSL, P.A. is on reimbursement consulting, spending and reimbursement rate analyses, cost structuring, cost report preparation, cost report audits and appeal issues for Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement. He also conducts financial statement projections, prospective financial analyses, and Certificate of Need financial forecasts. Lorne is a member of the FHCA Reimbursement and Legislative Committees and has presented staff webinars and training sessions on Florida's Medicaid reimbursement system and numerous previous sessions at FHCA events.
