Session SummaryUnder the new Prospective Payment System (PPS) for Medicaid reimbursement, the audit and appeals process continues to play a significant role in how providers are reimbursed and rates are determined. Under PPS, audited cost reports will be the source for peer group median cost component rates and individual provider rates for resident care. This session is aimed at educating providers on the audit and appeal processes and what to expect when you are selected for audit. Attendees will learn about AHCA's role and objectives in the process, expectations from providers, timelines and best practices for a better audit experience.

About the PresenterLisa Smith currently serves as the Bureau Chief for Medicaid Program Finance and has worked at the Agency for Health Care Administration since 2007. As Bureau Chief for Medical Program Finance, Lisa is responsible for the fiscal planning of the $28.4 billion Florida Medicaid Services budget, overseeing financial reporting of the Agency’s contracted Medicaid health plans, calculating both institutional and non-institutional Medicaid reimbursement rates and disbursing supplemental payments to Medicaid providers. Prior to her role as Bureau Chief, Lisa worked in the Medicaid Nursing Homes unit for 10 years. Under her leadership as the nursing homes administrator, Lisa assisted with the development and transition of the nursing home payment methodology from cost-based reimbursement to a prospective payment model.
