Session 26 | Ominous Background Beat of Resistance: Why Worry? How to Control with Active Stewardship and Infection Control

Session Summary

Long term care has become an important site of the proliferation and transmission of Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO). The presence of these organisms in a center has been shown to result in poor resident outcomes such as increased readmissions and treatment failure. Treatment requires more nursing time, more expensive agents, and more isolation. Once established, eradication of these MDRO from the environment requires robust Infection Control and active Antibiotic Stewardship. The latest information on the methods and rationales for control of these dangerous infections will be discussed.
