Session 12 | You Have Been Notified It Is an IJ: What Now?

The attendee will learn each requirement the center must meet to reduce and eliminate the Immediate Jeopardy (IJ). There will be guidance on what needs to be in the Allegation of Compliance (AOC) and the difference between a Plan of Correction (POC) and an AOC. The attendee will learn what steps CMS takes once the IJ occurs. Florida has additional regulations once a center has received an IJ, and the attendee will learn about those requirements.

About the Presenter
Kim Smoak has been with the Agency for Health Care Administration since August 1995. She is the Bureau Chief of Field Office Operations located in the Division of Health Quality Assurance. She is responsible for ensuring both federal and state survey work is completed timely, monitors quality improvement/quality assurance activity, training of survey staff and other division staff. She oversees the eight field offices, the complaint administration unit and the survey and certification branch within the division. Kim is also the State Survey Agency Director for the State of Florida. Kim holds a Master’s of Science in Health with the program emphasis in Aging Studies. She is also a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP). In 2009 and 2017, she received Survey & Certification Achievement Awards, presented by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for her work in Survey and Certification.
